The year was 1998 and I was a senior in high school. A senior who was in deep crush with, who I thought, was the most adorable boy in my class. This boy had a girlfriend. This boy had also never paid much attention to me, which made him exactly like all the other boys in my life up until this point.
Not to worry. Just one year later I would meet the man of my dreams and eventually marry him. But I tell you this to say that I always felt a touch guilty for one tragic moment that year. I wrote a note. A note to my best friend. A note that called that boy “hot”. A teacher found that note. And somehow it made its way through our entire class.
Taunting followed. Including a fan being placed directly in front of this boy before the start of class one day.
Why did I tell you this? Well because I had the honor of taking pictures for that boy’s old girlfriend and her now husband. We’ve both grown up and found the loves of our lives. High school seems so long ago now. Probably because it was.

Dear Sarah,
I’m sorry that I crushed so hard on your man those 12ish years ago. 12 years. Holy moley.
I hope that you take these pictures as a peace offering, and was so happy to do them for you.
Love, Me

I’m gonna be really honest with you guys. When this beautiful little girl hopped out of her car as I was pulling into the parking lot and I saw this incredible curly red hair, I got a little too excited. I couldn’t wait to get her into all the beautiful leaves in the park.
I talked to the most adorable redhead on the phone yesterday, and she ended the call with “I love you”. My heart was officially melted. I can’t wait to see you ladies again on Saturday. You’re one of the most beautiful families I’ve had the honor of working with, and I was so happy to do it for you.

I didn’t even realize it when I booked the session, but Angela and I went to high school together! Well, for one year. She graduated three years before me. But I love it when things just seem to fall into place that way.
We did the session at their home, and I have to say that I think that’s my favorite way to capture families. Things can be so much more laid back, because I’m not fighting for my favorite spots with other photographers in a crowded park. And if littles are involved they’re always more comfortable in their own environment.
It really is the best way to capture a family as they truly are.

We set Asa loose to run in the yard with the dogs and these were my absolute favorites from the day. Proof that if you just let kids be themselves you’ll capture those memories that will really mean something in the future.

I loved playing with your wonderful family, Angela. Dogs and all. I really hope you love these and they bring back floods of good memories for years to come!
